Facts Clayton Lockett was executed by the state of Oklahoma on April 29th, 2014 using a lethal injection comprised of 3 different drugs. The first drug induces a deep unconsciousness so that the prisoner does not feel any pain. For many years, Oklahoma used a drug called sodium thiopental. This case was different though. Their source for the sodium thiopental fell through and Oklahoma’s lawyers were under pressure to continue with the execution so they replaced the sodium thiopental with midazolam.
