In Galileo Galilei, Letter to the Grand Duchess Christina, Galileo laments his debate with the Church by writing a letter to Christina, the grand duchess of Tuscany in 1615. He challenged the doctrine of the church. At that time, many people were religious, and so whoever went against the church beliefs or doctrine was considered as heresy. Galileo believed that the sun is in the middle of the universe, and how earth rotates around it. The church argued Galileo’s absurd beliefs, and he was treated unfairly. So why should we care? Despite the fact that Galileo was proven right and the Catholic Church were to carry their hideous reputation over the years, in my opinion, people should have the prerogative to authenticate their beliefs or theories…show more content… The Catholics who believed that “God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth” created everything in this world by God’s works. Thus no one could defy the church’s beliefs. They mistakenly believed that the earth is the center of the universe. Galileo Galilei the Italian physicist and astronomer, he opposed their scriptural interpretation about the universe, hoping to prove them wrong, by giving them “scientific” observations, which was very inconceivable during the time. The church was wrathful about his theory which lead Galileo of house arrest and the ban on teaching of his beliefs. In his Letter to the Grand Duchess Christina, provides reasonable intuition about the church’s reason for his confinement,
“Possibly because they are disturbed by the known truth of other proposition of mine which differ from those commonly held, and therefore mistrusting their defense so long as they confine themselves to the field of philosophy, these men have resolved to fabricate a shield for their fallacies out of the mantle of pretended religion and the authority of the Bible.” (Galileo, Alfred J.Andrea and James H.
