Assignment # 4 Deviance as defined by sociologists is a behavior that violates the standards of conduct or expectations of a group or society. Functionalists view deviance as a common part of human existence, with positive as well as negative consequences for social stability. Durkheim stated that punishments established within a culture helps define acceptable behavior and thus contribute to stability. According to him, if the improper behavior goes unpunished that will leads to stretching the societal standards or norms of proper behavior. Symbolic interactionism’s perspective about deviance is that humans learn how to behave in social situations, whether properly or improperly. Being uneducated both, they started working with minimum wage salaries. With their combined wages, they were able find a cozy suitable apartment in well maintained gated community. Their choice of the community is to give good education to their future children. Within three years they welcomed their first two kids, boys born with one year apart. The family grew with two new arrivals both girls after couple years. Mom was constraint to stay home while dad became the sole provider for the family. As the financial burden grew on, dad has to get second job to supplement his income. For many years, father went to work very early in the morning and came home very late at night. This was the due to him maintaining a second job. When the boys reached their teenage years, they dropped out of school and started to hang out with other kids outside their community. The parents were well respected and never been in violation with the law. The boys started going in and out prison due theft and other offenses. Their parents could afford lawyers to get them out of prison for their last involvement in a theft. These boys are still incarcerated to this
