The Manipulation of Macbeth
Macbeth is a story that people know because of all the secrecy, lying, and death. But coming from the roots of all of that is manipulation. Manipulation lead to all of lying and secrecy which eventually lead to the death of everyone who is associated with it. Events that incorporates this includes Lady Macbeth manipulating Macbeth into murdering Duncan, Macbeth manipulates the murderers into killing Banquo, and Macbeth manipulating himself and his own fate.
Macbeth is at the top of the chart for manipulation. He himself is getting back stabbed by the thing that he is stabbing with.“know how tender ‘tis to love the babe that milk me. Macbeth thinks that because he can manipulate death to get want he wants and everything will work out but manipulation only leads to more death. This is not the only time that Macbeth has tried to manipulate things to go his way. When Macbeth is trying to convince the murderers that Banquo is the real enemy, he is trying to manipulate death for his own gain again. “Ay, in the catalogue ye go for men, as hounds and greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs, Shoughs, water-rugs, and demi-wolves are clept all by the name of dogs. The valued file distinguishes the swift, the slow, the subtle, the housekeeper, the hunter, / And so of men.” (1.3.147-148) Here Macbeth is trying to manipulate the murders by comparing them to dogs. Macbeth is saying that there are many different types of men like there are dogs and it is up to the murderers to decide what kind of man they are going to be.
