“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine”(Sinatra). This famous quote conjures an accurate representation of the talent and attitude of a contemporary artist in the mid -1900’s. The artist who said this quote was none other than the vocal genius, Frank Sinatra. An artist by choice, but a genius from birth. Born in Hoboken in 1915, Frank built his career as a jazz vocalist who singlehandedly paved the path for strong male vocalists years to come. Frank, one of the most popular and influential men of the 20th century, turned into a household name by making his mark as a successful singer, performer, and actor. He spent his time immersing himself in his music, films, and extramarital affairs. Later in his life, his relationships turned stormy and forced him to focus on the most important things; he specifically shifted his focus to his movie career. A year before he died in 1997, Sinatra was elected to the Gaming Hall of Fame in 1997. Frank was the only child of his Italian, immigrant parents, Antonio Martino Sinatra and Natalina Garaventa. His full name was Francis Albert Sinatra and he showed signs of incredible talent from a very early age (Gilmore), “he would be bigger than Bing Crosby one day” (MI 214). His mother was the parent that had the most influential impact on his temperament and development as a person. (MI 214). Sinatra’s father, Antonio, was involved in several “occupations” such as boxing, boilermaking, consorting to liquor bootleggers and eventually became the proprietor of a bar with Frank’s mother, Natalina (Gilmore).
