Chlorine is the Seventeenth element on the periodic table. It's chemical symbol is CI while its atomic mass is 35.453. It's state of matter at room temperature is gases. Chlorine is a greenish- yellow, diatomic, dense gas with a sharp smell or the smell of bleach. The family Chlorine belongs to is called "Halogen". Chlorine is neither explosive nor flammable. It will support combustion under certain conditions. Many materials that burn in oxygen (or air) atmospheres will also burn in chlorine atmospheres. Many organic chemicals react readily with chlorine, sometimes violently. It also reacts explosively with hydrogen in a range of 4% to 93% hydrogen.
