Theme
One of the main themes of the book is teamwork.
When the Flare was released into the world, it brought panic and death. It spread like a wildfire all over the world. For the best interests of the human race, WICKED and the human population all had to learn to work together. Everybody did their duties according to their own expertise and background. This is how WICKED came to be and how it chose to help find a cure for the Flare. The agents of WICKED tried to convince the human race, especially the Immunes, that it was their duty to participate in the experiments to help WICKED discover a cure for the disease, though not always approaching the matter in the appropriate way. The ultimate goal everyone had in mind is to keep the virus from spreading and preserve the human race. However they could not do this alone, so every person and piece had to have played its part in the big picture. Thomas could not have defeated wicked by himself. He had his friends and an army to back him up all the way to the end. Dashner is trying to tell us that you can't take on big threats alone. Teamwork makes the dream work, as the saying goes. You do not have to be alone when trying to accomplish a goal. If you work together, you will conquer and achieve more.…show more content… In other words, Determination will lead to success. This supporting theme also ties into the main theme of teamwork. Thomas had to fight against W.I.C.K.E.D to achieve his goals, but eventually, with the help of others, he succeeded.
