Foxes and their Environment The European Red Fox or Vulpes Vulpes as it known, Foxes have pointed muzzles,flattened skulls, large ears and long bushy tails they weight between 5 to 9 kg, males are generally heavier than females they are 700 mm to 1000 mm in length that includes the tail which can be 300 mm to 350 mm long. Foxes are territorial animals that mark they home with urine and faeces to warn off other intruding foxes their territories range from 2 to 5 km and will have a variety of habitats. Foxes have family groups which consist of males and female European Red Fox (vixen) with other females from previous litters. They Breed only once a year and they litter comprises of three to five clubs. Foxes are nocturnal animals,they sleep in dens, logs or other shelters. They are carnivorous scavengers and prey on whatever is available. Small animals are their main source of food however they also eat fruit and insects when food is scares.…show more content…
Foxes are pervade in light wooded and agricultural landscapes which offer a wide variety of food and shelter. They are not found in tropical area of Australia as food may be scares and they are prey for dingoes. They are in abundance in parts of NSW and South Australia.
