Why Whitetail Hunting Is a Good Ethical Practice It is 5:00 a.m. when the alarm goes off. You drag yourself out of bed, put on your camouflage bibs and boots, and last but not least, you grab your trusty .270 Winchester. Most people would never think to get up at 5 a.m. to sit in the freezing cold for four hours just to maybe see a glimpse of a deer. In fact, only 5% of the citizens in the United States would think to do that. Those 5% are the whitetail hunters of America (Lossy). Whitetail hunting is an ethical practice because, people have been doing it for hundreds of years, it is a good way to maintain wildlife population, and it is also a very safe sport to do. For many years deer hunting has been labeled as barbaric, inhumane, and cruel. White tail deer hunting isn’t just about going out in the woods and killing a creature. It has a lower injury rate than golf, volleyball and even tackle football. When you are hunting, there are a few things that you have to worry about, but they can be avoided fairly easily. One of the biggest injuries among hunters is falling from tree stands. Most of these accidents occur when the hunter is either going up the tree stand or coming down the stand. The reason this happens is because some hunters don’t take the precautions before going up a stand. Everyone who uses a tree stand should be wearing a safety harness. Another safety precaution would be always having the gun on safety, and unloaded when you are not using it. Wearing blaze orange is one of the biggest things to worry about. More than 1,000 hunters are shot each year because they are not wearing the appropriate clothing (Admin).
