Emma Goldman was well known anarchist because of her achievement in field of political, writing and speeches. She played an important role in development of anarchism and define women’s right. In fact, she actually define the meaning of anarchism in her quote. She said: “Anarchism stands for the liberation of the human mind from the dominion of religion and liberation of the human body from the coercion of property; liberation from the shackles and restraint of government. It stands for a social order based on the free grouping of individuals…” As the quote mention anarchism is not the same as rebellion. I found that she use the word “Artificial” very often to describe things or event that was not making sense to her. I like the way she explain things that are well known for all people but people don’t know why they should follow this norm. For example, Patriotism was very common in her time period because of World War I. People are just crazy about being proud of their country and raise their flag up everywhere after victory. However, Goldman quoted“Patriotism ... is a superstition artificially created and maintained through a network of lies and falsehoods; a superstition that robs man of his self-respect and dignity, and increases his arrogance and conceit.” Goldman once again use the word artificial as adjective to describe is false idea as far as she concern. The word artificial means made or produced by human beings rather than occurring naturally. In my understand, Goldman is defining features like Patriotism Marriage and Love Freedom, Minorities versus Majorities, etc. These features are all artificially created and maintained by human.
