In the novel “The Time Machine” by H. G. Wells a man travels in time to see the future! He sees 2 kinds of species, Eloi and Morlocks. The Eloi and Morlocks are both evolved human creatures. The Eloi are beautiful short men and woman with large eyes, small red lips, curly shoulder length hair, and are shorter than the average height. These charismatic creatures have much charm and appeal to the Time Traveler. On the other hand there are spider-like creatures known as Morlocks. These rough looking creatures are oddly shaped and live underground. Throughout this essay Overall, the Morlocks are a more intelligent species, but the Eloi are the much prettier and happy looking species. The two main species of the world of 802,701 AD both compete in survival but also “help” each other survive. Throughout the novel the Time Traveler sees both creatures and how they survive. The Eloi being the weaker link and the Morlocks being both intelligent and strong show the Time Traveler how differently they evolved. The Eloi got the beautiful physical traits while the Morlocks got the mentally advanced traits. They compete to survive and thrive against each other but they truly both need each other. The Eloi being vegetarians fool around all day and enjoy there lives, while the Morlocks work all day down in the wells creating industrial goods for the Eloi. But the Eloi doesn’t necessarily get these good for free. Here is where the competition and survival life style kick in! The Eloi fear the dark throughout the whole novel, they don’t necessary fear the dark its self-but instead, fear what could be lurking inside it! At night the Morlocks rise up from their wells and feed on Eloi, they do this because in order to survive they need food, since they can’t grow their own food they are forced to eat
