Dr. Concha Gomez is a Hispanic female mathematician. To get where she is at today, she had to face many obstacles. Her very own father did not support her decision to attend college. He also did not foster career-oriented aspirations in her because she was a girl and not a boy. Gomez did not have support in her early life. Her teacher never once told her she could become a mathematician. Without support she did not set goals. Another difficulty Gomez faced was that her father helped payed her brothers college tuition, but he decided not to give her any type of financial help. She then had to wait until she was in her mid-twenties to apply for financial aid.
