As a United States Army Officer it is your obligation to develop your soldiers to the best of your ability. It is your duty as a leader to counsel your soldiers to become successful and create a shared understanding of what you expect of them and what they can expect from you. As an officer you take responsibility of whatever your unit does or fails to do. This is why developmental counseling is very important; it’s a way to communicate to your subordinates more efficiently and clearly. The most efficient way to establish a developmental counseling program that emphasizes education and training, experience, continued support and enforcement (FM 6-22). The Army educates and trains soldiers through institutional level one of the three pillars
