One of the conflicts in the book is man versus nature. An example of this is the children who are stranded in the island and how they are trying to survive the unknowns of the island. The littluns are the most affected ones in the story. They are the most affected ones because “[littluns] were used now to stomach aches and a sort of chronic diarrhoea” (59). The quote shows how they are unable to have proper meals because of the lack of food and clean water that they have. Besides from the diseases that they have, the children on the island are also affected by the creatures living in the island.
