All in all, Golding describes the conch shell by using symbolism. The conch shell symbolizes civilization, power, and also the boys society. Once it brakes, evil emerges and takes over the boys civilization. In the beginning of the story, Ralph and Piggy discover the conch and they use it to govern the boys which symbolizes civilization and power.
