In “Vampires Never Die”, Del Toro and Hogan explain the appeal of the vampire in contemporary culture with many examples and theories. One of them is that the constant success and liking of vampires is being ignited by the technology that is developed with each era, and that keeps evolving. Del Toro and Hogan can’t help but compare science with a man’s unfounded fear, because they both give a sense of false belief, and bring importance to things that cannot be proven. The comparison comes into existence because not only is science coming up with solutions and theories to many things but it’s also allowing man to experience shock, terror and consternation again, and to believe things we cannot see, which brings us back to the unfounded fear.…show more content…
In paragraph 13, Del Toro and Hogan explain that the reason for Bram Stocker’s success with his 1897 Dracula is the evolution of technology itself. They say that “part of the reason for the great success of his ‘Dracula’ is generally acknowledged to be its appearance at a time of great technological revolution”. He explains that “The narrative is full of new gadgets (telegraphs, typing machines), various forms of communication (diaries, ship logs), and cutting-edge science (blood transfusions)” (paragraph 13, lines 1-4). However, the appeal has changed through time, because it now comes in different mediums such as TV shows, movies, books, and it’s a very relevant topic in different countries “Now, vampires simultaneously occur in all forms and tap into our every need: soap opera storylines, sexual liberation…the myth seems to be twittering promiscuously to serve all avenues of life, from cereal boxes to romantic fiction” (paragraph 11, lines 3-6) If you go to your TV Guide you will see many shows about Vampires, such as True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and much more. The infamous Vampires have also spread geographically, coming from the fact that it is one of the most famous monsters of all time.
