Comparing The Characters In Legend And Tears Of A Tiger

One Day at a Time
“Each day means a new 24 hours. Each day means everything is possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time”(Lu 304). In both Legend by Marie Lu and Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper, the characters are very well created. Both authors go very deep into each and every character they create, giving them distinct characteristics that, along with the rest of the well written book, captivate readers into not being able to put the book down. Two characters that play important roles in their novels, June from Legend and Andy from Tears of a Tiger, share many of these characteristics and experience a few similar things throughout the stories. Although they come from very different…show more content… Andy also feels betrayed because of Robbie’s death. He thinks that the world or God betrayed him for letting Robbie’s life being taken instead of his own, which leads to him eventually committing suicide, still losing his life, seeing it as a curse that he lived instead of a blessing. Dealing with emotions is taken very differently between June and Andy. While talking to a psychologist about death and suicide after Robbie’s death, Andy says “It seems like bein’ dead is the only way I’ll ever feel alive again”(Draper 92). He talks about how he wants to take his own life and just trade places with Robbie. Andy turns all of his emotions into sadness and rage, constantly blaming himself and wanting to commit suicide, while June just pushes through it all. She is still very sad, but never thinks of doing anything like Andy did. Andy was also most likely more affected because of his involvement in the death by driving drunk. June felt blame for not being there, but she had no real involvement in her brother’s death.
Andy and June are both very deep characters with their own defining characteristics and similarities. One comes from a postapocalyptic future society filled with war, while the other
