People define success as the accomplishment of the aim goals and purposes. While some people have the opinion of success being an easy task to accomplish others do not share the same opinion. People must possess certain characteristic to be able to obtain the desires successful lives society qualifies as the purpose of mankind’s existence. In the film The Pursuit of Happyness, the article “Marita’s Bargain’’ and the novel Half Broke Horses, the character have to make tremendous sacrifices to obtain their desires goals in life. When speaking to his young son Chris emphatically states “Don’t ever let somebody tell you...you can’t do something..you got a dream...you gotta protect it”(pursuit of happyness). He is able to find optimism and inspiration even when he is homeless and struggling to feed the two of them. During the time when he is homeless and trying to find shelter where he and his son could spend the night he founds one run by Glide Memorial Church there he is inspired by the preacher who while preaching verbalize”We all have to climb mountains...mountains that go way up high, and mountains that go deep and low”(pursuit of happyness).He realizes that life can be bad and good, that not everything will be perfect. But knowing that just makes him more persistence and helps him with overcoming adversities and refocusing his mind on his goal. Her father encourages her to do things like bargains with the price of the eggs she sells to Mr. Clutterbuck because according to him it will hone her math skills and taught the art of negotiation that will help her achieve her purpose. Her father also has a theory called the theory of purpose which “held that everything in life had a purpose, and unless it achieved that purpose, it was just taking up space on the planet and wasting everybody’s time”(Walls 24). According to her father everything has a purpose and they must achieve. This resourceful woman feels that she needs to find her purpose and achieve. While speaking to her father about the storm and feeling insecure about with her place in the world her father offers her advice.He says “God deal us all different hands. How we play ‘em is up to us”(Walls 15).It is lessons like those that guide her throughout her life and provide a sense of independence and courage to tackle difficult tasks.Therefore while on her journal trying to find her purpose she make tremendous sacrifices and find herself in dilemmas but she learns that if “ you ride, you got to know how to fall, and you drive, you got to know how to crash”(Walls 175).
