“The Odyssey” by Homer is an epic poem said to be written by its author based off a true hero’s journey. This story was written over the 8th century BCE but the tale had been told from generation to generation many centuries before it was put on paper. “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” was released in the year 2000 by the Coen brother’s how claim this adventure - comedy film has been based on the book of Homer. The movie is protagonized by George Clooney as Ulysses, a prisoner that escapes form his sentence with two other companions in the search for fortune in a buried treasure. The Odyssey is a poem essentially about the journey home of Odysseus after the fall of the Trojan empire. Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey and Ethan Coen and Joel Coen’s movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? have as much similarities as they do differences. One of the major difference between this two works are the setting, and in consequence, so do the cultural values of the time which have a direct impact on the way the characters act and think. All three main characters are known publicly for being criminals, they lie to each other and and lack of honesty and values. These three characters belonged to the low class and where only known after their failure to obey the law. Odysseus in the other hand is everything a hero should be: he is smart, brave, handsome, loyal and beloved by the gods. He is a hard worker by nature as recognized but one of his friend who proclaims "You are a hard, man, Odysseus. Your force is greater, your limbs never wear out.
