Both civilizations were based around rivers or a river. One civilization was based off of the Nile River while the other was based on 2 rivers called the Tigris and Euphrates River. These civilizations depended on the rivers for a big part of their living. The land between the Tigris and Euphrates River was named "Mesopotamia". Mesopotamia means "between the rivers" which shows its geographic placement. The river provided the people of Mesopotamia with many benefits such as irrigation and transportation. This gave them the ability to trade with other people out of the area allowing people to become wealthy. The rivers didn’t give much of a protection to the people. The wealth they had produced from trading made them bigger targets for invaders.
