Fashion is always changing rapidly all around the world. The way people dress can give individuals confidence and pride. One of the most well known fashion designers to change the world of fashion was Coco Chanel. “She is a French designer who is not only recognized for her fashion line, but also for her little black dresses and suits, her trademark perfume and her expensive simplicity in design” (Perez, “The Legacy of Coco Chanel”). Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel should be considered one of history’s most influential people, because she revolutionized the fashion world with her designs and color schemes that were bold, unique, and different from any previous designs. Gabrielle “Coco” Bonheur Chanel was born in Saumur, France on August 19,1883. Her mother died of tuberculosis when Gabrielle was just twelve years old. After her mother’s death, Coco’s father put her in a local orphanage and enrolled her in a Catholic boarding school. While attending the Catholic boarding school, the nuns taught Coco how to sew. When Coco was 18 she left the orphanage and became a seamstress. She also sang at a cabaret and adopted the name “Coco”. “Coco” means, “kept woman” in French.
