Coco Chanel’s Rejection “The most courageous act is for you to think for yourself. Out loud.”-Coco Chanel Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born August 19th 1883, in Saumur France. At a young age, her mother passed away causing her dad to put her in an orphanage. In the orphanage, she was taught how to sew by nuns. Once she left the orphanage, she had a singing career. After that brief singing career, she became a fashion designer. She is well known now for her trademark suits, timeless designs, and little black dresses. Many people are rejected in society, but, they all treat rejection differently and sometimes learn to accept it. Coco Chanel was rejected for being in a relationship with a Nazi soldier. In a biography, it stated “While not officially charged, Chanel suffered in the court of public opinion. Some still viewed her relationship with a Nazi officer as a betrayal of her country.” This shows how even though she was cleared through court, her country didn’t think that her relationship with him was right. Also in the text it said “Chanel’s affair during World War One with a Nazi officer made her fashion business in Paris cutoff for some years. In another biography, it said, “Chanel’s affair during WWI with a Nazi officer also resulted in some years of diminished popularity and an exile of sorts to Switzerland.” This shows that to get away from all the popularity and drama, she left France to go to Switzerland to be alone. Also in the text, it said “...She also lived at her country house in Roquebrune for a time.” This shows that she was probably upset and embarrassed of what she did. Also, maybe she’s used to being scared and wants to be alone a lot so she has a house for a mental escape from society.
