"Clownfish of the Sea" The vibrant clownfish is a very interesting creature of the sea. There is a verse in the Bible that depicts this animal as being very abundant. Psalm 104:25 says, "So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts." The scientific name of this animal is Amphiprion percula (Prosek 1). The environment and specific characteristics of the clownfish produce a dominant species. The body structure of the clownfish is very unique. The weight between the male and female fish varies greatly. The female fish is significantly larger than the smaller male clownfish. The female fish weighs in at 250 grams while the male fish weighs in close behind at 225-230 grams ("Introduction to Clownfish"…show more content… The length of these fish can vary depending on the species, but the average female length is 4 to 6 1\2 inches. On the other hand, the male's average of length is 3 to 5 1\2 inches (3). Clownfish are named for the bold strokes that help to decorate their bodies. The distinctive strokes vary from a lush purplish brown to loud oranges, reds and yellows. For a majority of the clownfish, their colors are split by abrupt lines of black and white. These stripes help warn predators of the sea anemone nearby ("Clownfish" 345). The bodies of these creatures are layered with 30-38 scales. These scales protect the bones and muscle in these fish which helps it swim (Miller 36). A layer of slime covers the fish which helps to protect the fish from its habitat. This layer of slime also keeps them safe from predators who try to harm them. One of their special characteristics is they scare their predators away
