The topic I have chosen to write about is Kate Chopin's short story "Desiree's Baby", where the overwhelming and apparent theme appears to be the racial issues that surround the era of Chopin's time. Chopin's short story deals with three types of racial issues that arise around her during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The three racial issues are slavery, interracial relationships, and racial discrimination. The issue of slavery was very prominent during the time of Armand Aubigny's, the husband of Desiree, rule. The slave-owners were very harsh to their slaves, which created hostility between the two races. The issue of interracial relationship, or "racial miscegenation" ( Bonner 3), appears to be very common during the 21st century,
