From a young age everyone is taught what is right and what is wrong. As one get older sometimes ones culture starts to influence what one perceives as right and wrong. Culture is defined as different experiences changing and shaping individuals to who they are and how they relate to others. Depending on circumstances culture can change ones view on the world around them. In “By Any Other Name” by Santha Rama Rau there is a large difference in cultures between the headmistresses and the Indian students. It was evident that the headmistresses were stereotyping all of the Indian students when Premila is telling her mom that “We had our test today, and she made me and other Indian kids sit at the back of the room, with a desk between each one.”
