Comparing and Contrasting Jesus and the Buddha The topic questions I will be addressing for my writing assignments are “How will you compare the lives and teachings of Jesus and the Buddha?,” and “In what different ways did the two religion evolve after the deaths of their founders?.” I decided to pick these particular topic questions because overall I find religion very fascinating, it amazes me how many different beliefs and traditions are out there, and I am really glad I get to compare and contrasts two founders each with different teachings, beliefs, and lives. Jesus and the Buddha both have several things in common, but there are also many differences between them, specially in their lives and their teachings. Jesus’ beginnings were pretty much the opposite of the Buddha’s beginnings. Jesus teachings were based on Judaism which then became Christianity and Buddha’s teachings were based on Hinduism which later became Buddhism. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Judaea, he belonged to a lower class family, His mother was named Mary, and according to the Bible, she gave birth to him as a virgin. The spread of Christianity as a world religion was made possible by Saint Paul. He began to make missionary journey which eventually led to several Christian communities. Saint Paul established many churches throughout the Roman Empire, but led to persecution under the rule of the Emperor Nero. A lot of believers in Christianity became martyrs since they were persecuted and killed because of their faith. The Emperor Constantine finally was the one to make Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire.
