Brazilian Jiu-jitsu vs. Karate Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a ground combat sport that contains grappling and ground fighting. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is used for self-defense and offense on the ground. Offense meaning attacking moves. BJJ includes rolls, escape moves, chokes, cranks, sweeps and take-downs. BJJ does not contain any punches unless you are in a fight or training for it. In BJJ, you work with your feet and hands and of course your body on the ground. The armbar is one of the first basic moves you can learn that leads into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. In BJJ, there is millions of moves to learn. BJJ has fundamentals for each beginner to become the best. Also, there are many different variations of several moves.
BJJ is a very conservative sport. Its almost like playing chess. When training and grappling with a partner, you are learning and focusing on what your next move is.
