Many movies have been produced that depict certain eras in American History, but the two most apparent of these are The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Dear John. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas portrays a little boy who has a Nazi general as a father, and he makes friends with a young Jewish boy who is in the local concentration camp. On the other hand, Dear John tells the story of a soldier who falls in love and the only thing keeping them apart is the Afghanistan and Iraqi war that took place after the events of nine-eleven.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas shows that even being from two totally different worlds a friendship could still be made successful. It also shows that adults may see one thing in a person, but a child's heart sees everyone the same. Whereas, Dear John gives the moral statement of that a soldier never leaves their partner in the heat of battle. Soldiers no longer are treated with respect and dignity like they once were, and although World War II was an awful war, the soldiers were actually treated with respect and dignity unlike how they are treated today. Dear John shows how it is to be an American soldier in today's world, and how they are treated compared to how they were once treated. The difference between The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and Dear John is that during World War II people would give any and everything to help their friends but in today's world, people are to busy thinking about themselves than what their friends may need. America's future is headed to a dark place and until the people of America realizes it then they are only going to turn on the gas to the chamber in which we have locked ourselves
