Best Buy’s telecommuting initiative, or flexible work program was the, “groundbreaking Results Only Work Environment (ROWE), one of the most innovative and celebrated examples of a company redesigning work to focus on results and boost performance through motivation-enhancing trust and autonomy” (Valcour, 2013). Telecommuting often makes economic sense, as it can cut costs for a business and employees, such as reduced office space for lower rent, lower electricity bills and employee commuting costs (Wilkie, 2015). The program was enacted in 2005 and yielded impressive results by increasing productivity, employee well-being and decreasing turnover.
