Beowulf is an epic hero who is most well known through Anglo-Saxon times. The story “Beowulf” is a poem of courage and epic battles. Throughout the story of Anglo-Saxon culture, bravery, friendship, and loyalty are showed how important it is to the Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. Since they lived in a tight kingdom that often had to defend off enemies , bravery and courage were important to survival. Not only those but bravery to fight such attackers and generosity to help your fellow warrior out.The written poem about Beowulf is best well known by Burton Raffel. Last Beowulf exemplifies an epic hero by defending a kingdom , went on a risky adventure , and always willing to fight showing courage and bravery. Beowulf defended Hrothgar’s kingdom by killing Grendel , Grendel’s mother , and a dragon."Twelve winters of grief for Hrothgar, king/ Of the Danes, sorrow heaped at his door/ By hell-forged hands, His misery leaped/ The seas, was told and sung in all/ Men's ears" Page 28. Grendel had torn through and destroyed a portion of the kingdom and Beowulf went to slay him. Next Grendels mother got furious and destroy more of the kingdom…show more content…
He had traveled the sea to fight Hrothgar’s terror. While fighting Grendel , many soldiers have been killed by him , but beowulf killed him. Later he went to travel a half of a day deep down in a swamp den to fight Grendel’s mother."She'd brooded on her loss, misery had brewed/ In her heart, that female horror, Grendel's/ Mother, living in the murky cold lake/ Assigned her since Cain had killed his only/ Brother, slain his father's son/ With an angry sword." Page 63 Grendel’s mother was much more of a harder battle then her son , she had bit his helmet and throws him to the ground. Beowulf finds a giant's sword and slays her. Later in Beowulf's life ,he goes out to fight a dragon , but the troops flee but one soldier name Wiglaf. Wiglaf and Beowulf slay the dragon but leaves Beowulf
