I have suffered from several serious injuries that I believe could have been prevented had I known detailed knowledge about muscles and recovery. I have torn both of my ACLs, suffered from 3 concussions, fractured my wrist, cracked my tibia, suffered from IT Band Syndrome, shredded my patella, and I have torn my meniscus so many times that I no longer have a meniscus in my right knee. I major in psychology so I have learned to cope with all of my injuries from a psychological standpoint; but I want to understand my body from a physiological and mechanical standpoint. I believe in being discipline. Because of my hard work and my positive attitude, I have always led my basketball team. Being part of a team is something I cherish and my experiences have led me to pursue a career in sports psychology. For me, becoming a sports psychologist means more than simply picking a career. Becoming a sports psychologist means following my passion. It means choosing a field that does not undermine my beliefs and morals. It means choosing a career where I serve others. It means putting others before myself on a regular basis. It means fulfilling my purpose. I see the potential in people and I feel like God has blessed me with the ability to help people see potential within themselves. Seeing people grow gives me a sense of gratitude. I want to improve the performance of athletes and non-athletes by training their minds and their bodies. Also, my parents and siblings did not graduate from college. Although that motivated me to get my degree, I do not want to settle there. I want to obtain my masters and then go on to obtain my PhD. I want to show my community that you can come from poor or struggling families and still become successful. You are in control of where your life takes
