Battle at Bunker Hill Did you know that the Battle at Bunker Hill mostly took place at Breed's Hill? However it did start off at Bunker Hill, it then quickly moved to Breed’s Hill. The Battle at Bunker Hill had many causes, effects, leaders, and events that make it an important role in the Revolutionary War not only for the soldiers but for the colonists too. They had to prepare for the battle. Some of the reason of the battle was because they wanted a win, after the Battle at Lexington and Concord. The colonists had gained knowledge about the British plan to station at Dorchester Heights and to take over the Charleston Peninsula, which Bunker Hill was located. Joseph Warren was the most interesting to me. Warren was an American commander. He was shot while guarding the redoubt with William Prescott. (Michael Burgan page. ) During the battle William Prescott yelled “Don’t shoot unless you see the whites of their eyes.” He was trying to save ammunition,(www.history.com) of which they were running low on. On the British side Sir William Howe commanded Thomas Gage to order 2,300 soldiers to take control of the hill. The British were very surprised to see the hill occupied. The american soldiers were lead overnight to the hill. Before to long the American soldiers were running low on ammunition and artillery, and soon had to give in. The British had won the battle at Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. The total deaths on the american side were 115, and the British 226. There were many wounded soldiers and a few captured. Of all that happened in the battle the battle was finally over. It wasn’t a very long victory for the british, however. The war allowed the colonists to know the British weren’t undefeatable. “It boosted the colonists confidence.” (www.theamericanrevolution.org) So all in all the British really didn’t get much of the win the went for. Everybody now knew that they could beat the British next time. They weren’t happy about losing, but they now that they had a chance and knew what to expect, when they went into battle
