Barbara Boxer
My report is about Senator Barbara Boxer. Senator Boxer was born on November 11th, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. She was a stockbroker from 1962-1965. Then, Boxer moved to Greenbrae, California in 1965 with her husband where she had her two children, Doug and Nicole. Boxer is now a grandmother of four grandkids. After losing a close election in 1972, she worked as a newspaper editor from 1972-1974. In 1982, she was elected to become the United States House of Representative where she represented District 6 of California for 5 years. She is a Democrat. In 1992, Boxer became a senate and was reelected in 1998, 2004, and 2010. Her term ends in 2017. She is a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she chairs the first subcommittee ever to focus on global women’s issues. A national leader on environmental protection, Senator Boxer is the ranking member on the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW).…show more content… I’m actually glad that a woman found herself fighting for what she believes is right for everybody in the U.S. Senator Boxer wrote 530 laws in between, health, education, environment, and energy committees. This shows that she cares about the citizens and wants to make a better future for America. For example, Boxer is the leading defendant of women’s rights, as she fought back against attacks on women’s health and right to privacy. She is pro-choice and against all kinds of discrimination from sexual orientation to gender identity like I am.
