I believe a leader is a person who many people look to for direction, guidance, and inspiration. Leaders go out of their way to try and make certain things happen, such things that otherwise would not happen. For leaders it is of great importance that they have the skill to make difficult decisions and to know and do what is right for the people. A person who is seen of high authority is responsible for supervising others as well as being an example of hard work and dedication. A strong and effective leader has character, competence, compassion, and courage. A leader can only really become signified as a leader by following the people and being recognized by the people as one. In the poem “Thoughts from the Tao-te Ching,” Lao-Tzu states…show more content… He also explains what he believes the aspects of a great leader are. He states, “If you want to lead the people, you must learn how to follow them." (66: 6-7). The quote itself states if someone wishes to lead, they must first learn to follow. The idea this quote implies is that if a leader leads using his/her people’s ideas; they can then build a long lasting relationship and bond with their people which then signify them as a true leader. It is not the leader who gives himself the significance of being a leader, but it is the people who abide by his rules and decisions who then signify him as a leader. Without the people's consent there really isn't a true leader. The people will only recognized a leader as a leader if s/he then portrays strong and effective leadership. For example, it is necessary for a leader to have character because a leader needs the skills to see what
