God, during each of the Plagues of Egypt, was merciful and protective of the Israelites, as he let none of the plagues affect them in any way, and they were not harmed. The Plagues had two purpose: to essentially strike down the false Egyptian gods that were actually demons, and to save the israelites in the process, with the latter being the primary objective and the most important. One Plague, aimed towards Uatchit, the fly god, was a giant swarm of flies that invaded Egypt and attacked the homes of the Egyptians, but God protected the Isrealites because they were the only ones that didn't get swarmed, and they were completely safe.
