As I was flipping throughout the book I came across this short poem, as i read the title I automatically began to think of a few things one it will be interesting two I thought to myself. Hmmm. Sex without Love? Prostitution? Umm possibly what we refer to as friends with benefits as well came to mind.The reasons i believed into it being involved with prostitution, was due to the fact that it is practically selling yourself without love being in the picture. Also i thought of girls who are used for human trafficking, their duty is to have sex without love being shared. I mean who has sexual intercourse without loving the significant other. At least I know I wouldn't give myself up without any type of affection in the relationship. I would think sex without love would be an empty experience an empty feeling without any affection at all. Maybe it's just me though I am more of a romantic person type. In our society today, sex believes are more free minded and not everyone believes in order to have sex you would have to be in love and the whole ball of wax.…show more content…
At that time period i'm sure that many people believed in marriage before sex. A few beautiful people still infact have their disagreements till this day. I believe Sharon Olds is trying to show us how people can isolate themselves emotionally from the physical part of having sex. Old's views on this are that she finds it paradoxical that people would out themselves to this. She personally says in her stanza: “How do they do it, the ones who make love without love? Beautiful as dancers, gliding over each other like ice- skaters over the ice, fingers hooked inside each other's bodies, faces red as steak,wine, wet as the children at birth whose are going to give them away.
