The article titled “Human Sexuality: How Do Men and Women Differ? ,” written by Letitial Anne Peplau, explains four ways human sexuality is different between males and females based on empirical research. Sexuality can be strictly defined as a capacity for sexual feelings or can be defined based on a person’s gender as well as feelings. Peplau mentions in the article that there are four important gender differences in human sexuality two of them are aggression within sexuality and using relationships as a gate way to sexuality. She also comments that research does not really know how these differences between genders are shaped. While reading this article I was able to pick up on some factors that may have influenced the two gender differences…show more content… Aggression is defined as the overt, often harmful, social interaction with the intention of inflicting damage or other unpleasantness upon another individual. There is often a stereotype that says the men are more aggressive in all accepts of life especially sexually. Peplau reinforces this stereotype by saying that men see themselves as aggressive, powerful, experienced, domineering and individualistic, while women did not have the equal self-aggression thoughts. Males thinking they are aggressive human beings eventually results in them being aggressive. What might influence males to be aggressive than women sexually? Today’s society is so focused on social media, advertisements and online articles it is easy to see why men are more influenced to be more domineering, this is because there are so many things that tell men to be. For example, recently the book 50 Shades of Grey was a hot topic for months. This book as well as movie gives a perception that it is ok for men to hit and dominate women for sexual reasons and hints that most of the time women are ok with it. Also, learning from ones parents and culture could result in males being more aggressive and females to take a more submissive role. Peplau in the article says that men are more likely to take the lead in sexual interaction and women although sometimes do are less likely. In my culture it is taught that women should not show any type of sexual feeling in public, they are taught to suppress there sexual feelings. This could be a factor in women not taking a more aggressive role causing the men to take the
