She is also a single-parent with three jobs. Sometimes, her role as both the mother and father becomes difficult to juggle. Every year we receive heart-felt cards and home-cooked meals from our loving neighbors. These gracious acts are one of the many that demonstrate pity. A zeal for pity is a result of three vital conditions. Without a doubt, the moving passion for pity of the suffering of mankind is crucial. The passion for pity helps us to avoid mishaps from our past in our future. The passion for pity also helps us to develop a sense of selflessness. In “Three Passions”, by Bertrand Russel, Russel states, “I have wished to understand the hearts of men,” and he goes on to say, “I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot, I too suffer” (632). Russel is able to see through the eyes of those suffering and yearns to rid them of pain. The zeal for the pity of the suffering of mankind helps us to avoid previous mishaps from the past.
