Born into one of Italy’s wealthiest families, it comes as no surprise that Amerigo Vespucci had a fascination with maps and travel since he was a young boy. This fascination would come to fruit when he moved to Spain in 1492, where his passion for exploration would grow. While working in Spain as the supervisor of a Ship-outfitting business in Seville, Amerigo was exposed to the explorer’s ships which often set sail to find new lands. After speaking with Christopher Columbus in 1496, he decided to do something unexpected, to set sail in search of the “New World”.
