A name for a series of vindictive laws passed by the British parliament was the intolerable acts. They were for penalizing Massachusetts colonists for confrontation in throwing a huge tea shipment into the Boston harbor. These laws were called coercive acts in Great Britain. These acts took away Massachusetts’ historic rights and self government. Causing resistance and outrage in the thirteen colonies. In 1775 they were key improvement in an up rise of the American Revolution. In direct response four of the acts were issued to the Boston tea party in 1773.
