384 Words2 Pages
Admission to a monastic community wasn't easy and the person being admitted was expected to give up all their possessions upon entering the community. Newcomers wouldn't be admitted right away and would need to be patient but persistent if he true wanted to join. If admitted the newcomer would stay a few days in a guest day afterward he would be moved to the novice center where they would be watched over by an older monk. The older monk would test the novice to insure the he is truly seeking God, and find out if he intends to be humble, obedient, and perform the work of God (White, 85). If he promises to continue after two months he is read a rule and will stay in the center for another four months. This processes continues for about a year
