Perhaps it is preemptive of me to make the correlation between Adam Smith's idea of division of labor and Marx's Theory of Alienation (of Species Being). While for Marx, the alienation leads to an estrangement from society as a repercussion of being a mechanistic part of a social class. From my understanding, Smith's division of labor advances society by creating additional capital to produce growth and positive societal change. These ideals seem both to mimic one another while also being in direct conflict with one another.
