Acute hamstring injury is the most common in field athletes, such as sprinters and jumpers. This injury has a high rate of reinjury, and one of the reasons might be incorrect rehabilitation programs. There are not too many studies for acute hamstring injuries which have researched the effectiveness of different treatment protocols.
A study showed that it is more effective loading the hamstrings during extensive lengthening mainly during eccentric muscle actions than conventional protocol in promoting time to return to play.
The purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness between two rehabilitation protocols from Swedish sprinters and jumpers with acute hamstring injuries by evaluating time needed to return to full participation
