A Story written by Joyce Carol Oates. It’s all about a beautiful girl called Connie, who usually goes out with her fiends to the shopping plaza to movies and hangout with guys till later in the night. One night, a boy named Eddie offers Connie to eat dinner with him, and Connie leaves her friend at the restaurant’s counter to go with him. As they walk through the parking lot, she sees a man in a gold convertible car, he smiles at her and said, I’m “gonna” get you baby. She did not care much until one Sunday afternoon, Arnold Friend as the stranger pulls up in front of her house after she has refuse to attend a barbecue with her family; as a result she was home all by herself. This stranger drove to Connie’s house with his friend Ellie when nobody else was home. He introduced himself and his friend to Connie and ask her out for a ride. She got destructed after she followed him. The author describes Connie as a very gorgeous girl whose looks are significant to her. This is a seen from looking through the mirror each and every day and comparing others faces to hers to make sure that she is looking good. She is inspired with her beauty until the mother reproaches her. She always gets so much attention from people due to her looks.
