It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the 'Living Infinite', as one of your poets has said." Pg. 61 Context: This is when Captain Nemo is explaining his love for the sea to M. Aronnax. This quote also shows how deep Captain Nemo's admiration for the sea is. Relevant quote: “There is the disadvantage of not knowing all languages," said Conseil, "or the disadvantage of not having one universal language.” Pg. 49 Context: This is where M. Aronnax's servant Conseil tells him that there is a problem about shortness of knowledge. Commentary: This is a problem even after many years. When God cursed the world with many languages and scattered them, it was to keep humans from trying to be like God. This will always keep humans from working perfectly together, even with translators. Part 2 Artistic quote: "Captain Nemo showed me the tin-plate box, stamped with the French arms, and corroded by the salt water. He opened it, and I saw a bundle of papers, yellow but still readable." - Pg. 115 Context: This is where Captain Nemo tells Aronnax about sunken ships and pulls out a box as proof. After showing him the box, Captain Nemo admits that he admires the captain of that ship for his death at sea. Commentary: I love the picture of this box that this quote puts in my mind.
