The book The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm is about an eleven year old girl named Ellie who is in 7th grade trying to keep up with being in middle school, having divorced parents, and losing a best friend. Brianna, her best friend, suddenly has a passion for volleyball. Brianna now sits with her volleyball team, hangs out with her volleyball team, and suddenly is busy everyday after school. Ellie was excited after school to finally have her babysitter, Nicole, over to watch her. Ellie's mom didn't get home until late that night. When she finally did, there was a teenage boy following her, and on top of that, Nicole had bad news. “I got a job at the make-up store in the mall!” Ellie's mom finally explained who the teenage boy was-her grandpa!
