Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about Edvard Munch, who was an extremely influential painter involved in the transition into the expressionist movement.
Thesis Statement: Edvard Munch grew up dealing with insanity from the loss of close family members and many other events, which allowed him to express his feelings through his art and become one of the most iconic artists to contribute to the expressionist movement with one famous influential painting, The Scream.
INTRODUCTION:
I. Directional transition: The realistic interpretations of his life through art led him to the creation of a famous painting that is well known by anyone who sees it.
III. Main point: The Scream, which appears to be a simple work, actually has a stronger meaning behind it, which made it one of the most iconic and recognizable paintings.
A. Supporting Point: “The figure on the bridge—who may even be symbolic to munch himself—feels the cry of nature, a sound that is sensed internally rather than heard with the ears” (Paulson, 2014).
B. Supporting Point: The painting served as an inspiration leading up to the Expressionist movement and has had many critics questioning the painting.
