What Does The Deer Symbolize Frances

143 Words1 Page
I chose a deer to represent her left eye to symbolize Frances’ carefulness in the beginning of the novel because and deer are careful creatures that immediately run off when they believe they are threatened to a place where they could escape from the face of danger. Frances is careful because she plans out her excuses ahead of time so she wouldn’t be caught by her mother who’d realize she had sneaked to speech class rather than calculus. This quality differs at the end of the book because she becomes a little more careless and her mother finds her plane tickets before Frances gets a chance to tell her about them. For example, when the Speech teacher, Ms. Taylor, drives Frances home, she makes sure she drops her off a block away from her apartment
