Hyperthyroidism is a disease in the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is located in front of your neck right below the Adam’s apple. It produces two hormones, tetraiodothyronine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), that are in charge of how your body cells control and use energy (metabolism). Hyperthyroidism is defined when too much of these two hormones, T4 and T3 are produced. Having an overactive thyroid is diagnosed with several common symptoms; bulging eyes, weight loss, rapid pulse, and high blood pressure, along with an enlarged thyroid gland.
