Eric, Until I read your post, I couldn't think of one positive of RFID tags from the grocery store perspective. Then you said shoplifters. If there was a way to reactivate an RFID tag for merchandise over a certain dollar amount, say $500 then it may be an okay idea. I am not by any means saying I like the idea, but it may help cut down on some shoplifting of high dollar items. It almost makes you wonder if they have the capabilities to do things like this now. They are able to track pets through this technology so it would only make sense that they would be able to track down a shoplifter. With these capabilities there is at least something positive that would come of the situation and I am sure there are other things, it just makes it hard
